Biography

Dajana Karaula (Zoretic) was born on April 30, 1984 in Rijeka, Croatian, citizen of the Republic of Croatia. 

Schooling: She completed her elementary school and Salezian classical grammar school education in Rijeka. She enrolled the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb in 2002, where she graduated in October 2007. She enrolled postgraduate doctoral studies in kinesiology, field of social sciences, scientific area of kinesiology, branch of sports kinesiology in 2009, where she passed all exams with the grade average of 4.88/5. She successfully defended her doctoral dissertation titled “IMPACT OF HYPERCAPNIC-HIPOXIAN TRAINING ON 100 METERS FRONT CRAWL STYLE IN TOP SWIMMERS” on November 19, 2013 at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb. She also completed Professional graduate studies for trainer education (SCIT), field of Diving.

Teaching activity, career description: Since 2007, he has been employed at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb as an Assistant lecturer in the course Swimming. She has also participated at the Faculty of Kinesiology in lecturing elementary courses Teaching of swimming methods and Competition swimming, and courses in the elective module Swimming (Methodics of swimming practice, Anthropological analysis of swimming, History, rules, and swimming organization, Kinesiological swimming analysis, Methodics of technical and tactical preparation in swimming 1, Methodics of conditional preparations in swimming 1, Kinesiological analysis of swimming 1) and elective course Free diving, as well as held lectures at the Study Training Center for Trainer Education, study direction Swimming. As a participant in the ERASMUS + program, she held 95 hours of lectures and exercises in the course Swimming 1 in the period between 14 November 2016 and 28 February 2017 at the Faculty of Sport, University of Ljubljana. She is completing a degree in Communication Sciences and Public Relations at Bernays.

Awards and acknowledgments: The award for the best athlete of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb was awarded to her in 2005. She was a member of the Swim team at the European Championships and Mediterranean Games and a fellow for the Olympic games in Beijing. She won a silver medal at the Mediterranean Games and was a semi-finalist at the European Championships. She was a top athlete of the 1st category according to the criteria of the Croatian Olympic Committee for free diving. She is Croatia’s multiple recorder holder and double vice-champion of the world.

She was a conditioning trainer of the Junior Croatian Water Polo team (U20), with whom she won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships in 2013 and the prestigious Dražen Petrović Award in 2013 in the category of the most successful men’s team. In 2014, she won the bronze medal at the European Championships (U20) with her junior water polo team.S

she is the winner of the best professional paper award in 2012 at the 21st Summer School for Kinesiologists of the Republic of Croatia under the title “Intensification in the Process of Non-Propagation.” Also, in 2014, she won the award for the best scientific research paper at the 23rd Summer School for Kinesiologists of the Republic of Croatia under the title “Differences in the Success of Learning to Swim using the Halliwick Concept in Children with Physical Disabilities and Children with Intellectual Disabilities.” On the celebration of the 51st and 52nd anniversaries of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb, she was given a recognition for outstanding achievements in sports, i.e. sports achievements in academic years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. Since 2015- today, she has been a member of the professional staff of the Water Polo Club Jug CO – Dubrovnik (Strength and Conditioning Coach), with whom she has won the Croatian Cup, the Triglav League, the Croatian Championship, the European Champion League, and the Super Cup. Since 2016, she has been a member of the professional staff of Water Polo Club Strasbourg – France and Water Polo Club Steaua Bucharest (Romania) (Strength and Conditioning Coach) and since 2019 she is a member of professional of Water Polo Club Dinamo Tbilisi and water polo representation of Georgia. In 2016, she received the award for Croatia’s best conditioning trainer.  At the 8th International Scientific Conference on Kinesiology, she was awarded the Miloš Mraković Young Investigators’ Award for her paper The effects of plyometric training followed by training cessation on motor performance. Scientific activity: She began her scientific career in 2009 by enrolling the doctoral studies at the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb. During her postgraduate studies and afterwards, she has actively participated in a number of international scientific and scientific-professional conferences, as evidenced by the number of written and published papers.

ERASMUS+project LETSWIM Enabling adequate physical activity and improving social inclusion
for children and adults with disabilities through swimming

Project partners: Plivački klub Natator, Croatia coordinator of the project, Stowarzyszenie Plywania i Terapii w Wodzie „Halliwick Polska”, project partner, International Halliwick Association, Denmark project partner, Plavalni klub Velenje, Slovenia project partner, Sportsko udruženje Halivik, Serbia, project partner. 

Our project („Enabling adequate physical activity and improving social inclusion for children and adults with disabilities through swimming” / LET’S SWIM) is focused on

(1) individuals with disabilities aiming to offer them equal opportunity in swimming and tool for social inclusion and to motivate them, through swimming, to get and stay engaged into sport and be physically active and on

(2) swimming organizations and their coaches aiming to share knowledge and experience about application of Halliwick Concept, to raise awareness about and to further upgrade relevant traits, coaches’ knowledge, competencies and skills necessary for coaching children and adults with disabilities as well as to increase competencies in organization of very specific competition, called Gala2, that enables people with and without disabilities to swim/compete together thus securing continuous motivation for people with disabilities to get and stay engaged into sport. 

With LET’S SWIM project we want to promote swimming sport as health enhancing physical activity and as a powerful tool for providing equal opportunities and enabling better social inclusion for individuals with disability.
